Checks

  • Site name as the H1

Fix: The first line must be a single # heading with the site or project name.

  • 0 pages listed

Fix: List at least the pages you'd want an assistant to read: docs, pricing, key guides.

  • One-line summary in a blockquote

Fix: Add a sentence that says what the site is and who it's for — it's what an assistant reads first.

  • All links are absolute URLs

Fix: Use full https:// URLs so the file works when read away from your domain.

  • Every link has a note

Fix: A short note after each link tells the assistant what it will find without fetching it.

FAQ

Frequently asked

llms.txt is a Markdown file at the root of a domain that gives AI assistants a curated map of the site: a title, a one-line summary, and lists of the most important pages with a note on each. It was proposed by Jeremy Howard in 2024 and is now published by thousands of docs sites.

An H1 with the site name, an optional blockquote summary, then H2 sections that each hold a Markdown list of links, written - [Title](url): description. A final section titled Optional marks pages that can be skipped when context is tight. This tool writes exactly that structure.

Adoption is uneven. Anthropic, Cloudflare, Stripe and many docs platforms publish one, and some assistants fetch it when a user points them at a site, but none of the big engines has committed to crawling it as they do robots.txt. It costs nothing to publish and helps any agent that looks, so it belongs in the same setup pass as robots.txt and schema.

llms.txt is the index: links and one-line notes. llms-full.txt is the full text of those pages concatenated into one Markdown file, for tools that want to load everything at once. Start with llms.txt; add llms-full.txt if you have docs.
