The short answer
The best Koala AI alternatives in 2026 are Rankbox for 30 articles a month on autopilot at $49.50, SEOWriting.ai and Machined for the lowest price per article, and Junia AI for scheduled publishing to Wix, Ghost or Blogger. Affiliate sites should look at Autoblogging.ai and ZimmWriter. Most of them count articles or credits, not words, so a month of content is easy to price.
This page covers Koala AI at koala.sh, the AI SEO platform behind KoalaWriter. It's not about the B2B sales tool at getkoala.com, whose site says Cursor acquired it and it shuts down on 30 September.
Koala sells words. Professional gives you 100,000 a month for $49 and Boost 250,000 for $99, and your model decides how many articles that makes. Scheduled autopilot starts at Boost. So people compare Koala AI alternatives to price a month of articles, or to get autopilot for less than $99.
All prices were checked on 23 September 2026 on the vendors' own pages. We make Rankbox, so it's first, and its entry says what it doesn't do.
Key Takeaways
- Koala's word allowances are based on GPT-6 Luna. Sonnet 5 and GPT-6 Sol use them at 2x and Opus 5.5 at 3x, so Professional makes about 40, 20 or 13 articles of 2,500 words.
- Koala's autopilot starts at $99. Rankbox ($49.50 for 30 articles) and Junia AI ($59 for 68) publish on a schedule for less.
- Several Koala AI alternatives cost less per article than Rankbox, led by SEOWriting.ai and Machined at $19. So does Koala on GPT-6 Luna.
- Autoblogging.ai, SEOWriting.ai and ZimmWriter have Amazon product-data features. Rankbox and Byword don't.
- Stay on Koala for its keyword and backlink data, Amazon roundups, or 100+ languages.
How Koala's Word Plans Turn Into Articles
Every Koala plan has two meters. Words pay for articles. Credits, 1,000 a month on Professional, pay for chat, images, KoalaLinks, lead magnets and the Brand DNA agent.
Koala reshuffled its models on 23 September 2026. The footnote on its pricing page now reads: "The word count is based on using GPT-6 Luna. GPT-6 Sol and Claude Sonnet 5 count words at 2x, and Claude Opus 5.5 counts at 3x." The same day's changelog moved GPT-5.6 Sol users from 3x to 2x, so their words now go further.
Here's what that does to 2,500-word articles, by our division: monthly words over 2,500 times the multiplier, rounded down. Yearly billing takes 20% off and delivers the year's words up front.
| Koala plan | Billed monthly | Words a month | GPT-6 Luna (1x) | Sonnet 5 or GPT-6 Sol (2x) | Opus 5.5 (3x) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $25 | 45,000 | 18 | 9 | 6 |
| Professional | $49 | 100,000 | 40 | 20 | 13 |
| Boost | $99 | 250,000 | 100 | 50 | 33 |

Treat those counts as a ceiling, since they assume no rewrites. Koala sets length in sections of about 400 words, not a word target, and its help center warns that "Some languages cost a lot to process due to how GPT tokenization works."
Reviews reflect the meter. On Trustpilot, Koala had 3.2 out of 5 from 22 reviews on 23 September 2026, and low ratings mention cancellation, recurring charges, slow support, and credits going fast on premium models. Capterra showed 4.5 from 70 on 21 September 2026.
So the Koala AI alternatives below are judged on one number: what a finished article costs on the plan you'd actually buy.
Autopilot Below $99: Who Else Publishes on a Schedule
Koala's Content Calendar Autopilot runs the whole loop. Its agent plans your month from Search Console, you approve the topics, and each article is "written and published on its scheduled date without you opening the app." It starts on Boost, which Koala's plans post calls "the plan most people should start with." Below Boost, bulk-written articles upload as drafts with no calendar.
A scheduler isn't an autopilot. Some tools space out articles you've written. Others also choose what to write.
| Tool | Cheapest plan that publishes on a schedule | Billed monthly | Who picks the topics |
|---|---|---|---|
| Koala AI | Boost | $99 | Koala's agent, from Search Console; you approve |
| Rankbox | Its one plan | $49.50 | Rankbox, from the questions your buyers ask |
| Junia AI | Scale Starter | $59 | AutoBlog, once you enter your site's URL |
| SEOWriting.ai | Starter | $19 | You; it schedules WordPress posts |
| ZimmWriter | Licence | $24.97 plus AI costs | You; it schedules WordPress posts |
Machined's pages describe batch publishing rather than a calendar, and Byword's $99 scheduler spaces out articles you've already made. So for autopilot under $99, two Koala AI alternatives do the full job: Rankbox at $49.50 and Junia AI at $59. SEOWriting.ai and ZimmWriter cost less, but you pick every topic.
Koala AI Alternatives That Bill by the Article
We read twelve "Koala AI alternatives" lists and directories first. Their most-named tools, Writesonic, Jasper, Surfer, Frase and Copy.ai, are mostly editors or marketing writers where a person still writes. Our Surfer SEO alternatives and Writesonic alternatives guides cover them, and autopilots like Outrank and SEObot are in our SEObot alternatives guide.
Two tools on those lists have changed course. Content at Scale's domain now leads with BrandWell's buyer-intent data, and SEO.ai sells a $149-a-month service run by an AI agent. Everything below writes finished long-form articles, publishes its prices, and was on sale in September 2026.
1. Rankbox: 30 articles a month, autopilot included
Rankbox sells articles, not words. $49.50 a month buys 30 on one site, about $1.65 each, and the count doesn't depend on which model wrote them. There's one plan, and the schedule is part of it.
It reads your site and maps the questions your buyers ask Google and AI assistants, using answer-space research. Its demand figures are AI estimates, not keyword-database volumes. The citation-ready writer researches the pages ranking now and drafts about 2,750 words in your brand voice, answer first, with an FAQ, inline citations and a References list. A draft that fails an SEO check goes back through until it passes the SEO and GEO score.
- Delivery: your weekly cadence, up to one article a day, through the Rankbox publishing API. A developer connects it once. Plugins for WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer and Square are being built.
- Research in your AI tools: one MCP link, 49 AI tools, Claude and ChatGPT among them. It's for research, not publishing.
- Links and Reddit: paid plans add a backlink exchange with 30 credits a month. A link costs 1 to 3 credits by the host site's tier, matches your topic, is never a direct swap, and moves credits only once it's verified live. You also get Reddit reply drafts that you post yourself. Both were rolling out in September 2026.
- Terms: a 7-day free trial of up to 7 articles, which takes a card. No yearly plan, extra sites at $49.50 each, and no refunds except for billing errors or where the law requires.
A Koala user gives up keyword, backlink and SERP data, a Search Console agent, a choice of models, Amazon roundups, 100+ languages, and native WordPress, Shopify, Webflow and Ghost publishing. Rankbox has no live AI citation monitoring yet, and one login per account. It fits founders who want cited, SEO-checked articles on a schedule without paying for Boost. Rankbox vs Koala AI lists every difference.
2. SEOWriting.ai: KoalaWriter's closest match, billed per generation
If you like KoalaWriter's one-click flow and only mind the meter, start here. SEOWriting.ai appeared on six of the twelve Koala lists we read. It outlines from the top 10 search results, writes in one click, and bulk-writes up to 100 articles at a time to WordPress.
Billing is the difference. Its homepage says: "With the Starter or the Professional plan, billing is based only on the number of generations, not on the word count." Articles run up to 5,000 words.
Price: Starter is $19 a month, or $14 yearly, for up to 50 articles. Professional is $79, or $59 yearly, for up to 250, and adds internal and external links. The free plan gives 3 articles without payment details, though its terms reserve the right to ask for billing information.
For affiliates: Amazon product lists from a product URL or ASIN, and "20+ pre-trained models for affiliate content," in 48 languages.
Check first: Starter articles have no links. Native publishing is WordPress plus a Shopify app, with no AI tracking, and "up to 50" depends on how many credits your article type uses. On Trustpilot it showed 4.6 out of 5 from 365 reviews on 23 September 2026.
3. Machined: clusters, with every model on every plan
Koala's multiplier makes you trade model quality against article count. Machined keeps the model off the bill. Its model docs say "All users have access to the same models regardless of plan or API mode," and plans count articles.
From a seed keyword it "automatically finds hundreds of related keywords, groups them by search intent," then writes a pillar page and supporting articles, already linked. Same-intent keywords share one article, so your pages don't compete for one query, a problem called keyword cannibalization.
Launch is $19 a month, or $14 yearly, for 30 articles, and Growth $49, or $37 yearly, for 100. A $99 plan runs on your own AI key, at "around $0.20 each in provider costs." The 7-day Launch trial takes no card, and "You won't be charged automatically." After that, "we do not offer refunds once a subscription has been charged."
Every plan gets every feature, unlimited websites and 2 team members, where Koala and Rankbox give one login. Lengths run from 1,200 to 3,200 words in 100+ languages. Native publishing is WordPress and Webflow, with a webhook for the rest. It batch-publishes rather than keeping a calendar, has no AI tracking, and some docs still describe older plans. It suits new sites building topical authority one topic cluster at a time.
4. Junia AI: autopilot for $59
Junia AI's autopilot costs $40 less than Koala's. Scale Starter is $59 a month for "68 articles/month, generated and published on autopilot." You enter your site's URL, and AutoBlog writes and publishes on a schedule. It also includes bulk generation, a content planner, API access and unlimited websites.
It publishes natively to WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Blogger, Ghost and Medium, plus webhooks. Next to Koala's four, Wix and Blogger sites gain the most.
Growth is $34 for 10 articles you write yourself. Scale Plus is $89 for 136 and Scale Pro $159 for 283. A "Limited time offer" with a countdown halves yearly prices, putting Scale Starter at $29 a month, so the regular yearly price isn't published. The free plan needs no card, but its limits aren't shown.
AutoBlog, bulk and the API all need a Scale plan. There's no AI citation tracking, and the site gives two language counts, "150+" and "over 50." On Trustpilot it showed 3.9 out of 5 from 88 reviews on 23 September 2026.
Koala AI Alternatives for Affiliate, Bulk and Programmatic Sites
Many Koala buyers run niche sites: product roundups, news, and hundreds of pages at once. These three Koala AI alternatives are built for that volume.
5. Autoblogging.ai: Amazon and news modes, paid in credits
Autoblogging.ai comes closest to Koala's affiliate toolkit. Its Amazon Reviews mode promises "Real Amazon product data" and "Auto affiliate tag insertion." There's a Google News mode, YouTube and RSS to blog, and CSV bulk runs of "up to 500 articles at once."
Credits replace words, and options still move the meter:
- A Quick or Amazon Reviews article costs 1 credit.
- Godlike Mode, which adds SERP competitor analysis, costs 2.
- Any language other than English adds 1.
- The Fact Checker adds 2.
Unused credits roll over while you stay subscribed. Koala's monthly credits expire after a month.
Starter is $19 a month for 40 credits, Regular $49 for 120 credits and three sites, and Standard $99 for 300, or $12, $32 and $64 billed yearly. By our arithmetic, Regular buys 30 Godlike articles with 60 credits spare, or 60 at about $0.82 each.
It publishes to WordPress, Shopify, Wix, Webflow, Blogger and Ghost, plus Medium, Tumblr and other web 2.0 sites, and tracks Google AI Overviews only. A homepage testimonial praising "parasite SEO" speaks to tactics that are riskier on a brand's own site.
6. ZimmWriter: no word limit, your own API keys
ZimmWriter drops the word meter by dropping the middleman. It's a Windows app, and "you bring your own API keys. No monthly word limits." You pay OpenAI or OpenRouter directly, or nothing for a local model through Ollama. Koala's help center says its writer and chat don't take your own OpenAI key.
Compare the costs. Koala's Boost is $99 for 250,000 words. ZimmWriter's own example says that with GPT-4o Mini, "250,000 words costs approximately a quarter," plus a licence of $24.97 a month or $247 a year. Premium models cost more, and the API accounts, rate limits and bills are yours to manage.
For affiliates it writes up to 50 roundups of 15 products each for the AAWP and AFFI.ai plugins. Amazon details and live SERP data need ScrapeOwl, at $5 a month. It also writes 1,000 posts in one click, builds up to 625 local service pages, and schedules to up to 100 WordPress sites.
It publishes natively to WordPress only, makes no AI search claims, and its homepage lists no trial or refund terms.
7. Byword: article credits that never expire
A Byword credit is one article, whatever its length or model. Credits roll over and never expire, while Koala's yearly words last 12 months.
Its templates fill variables from CSV, Google Sheets or Airtable, so a spreadsheet becomes hundreds of pages. That's programmatic SEO. It publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Ghost, HubSpot, Medium and GoHighLevel, and a scheduler spaces finished articles over days. Byword's own Koala comparison credits Koala with the stronger Amazon affiliate tools.
Starter is $99 a month, or $990 a year, for 25 articles, with extras at $3.50. Standard is $299 for 80 with three seats and API access, and Scale is $999 for 300. You start free with 5 articles and no card. Its billing docs say "We don't offer automatic refunds."
At $3.96 an article on Starter, it costs more than Koala's Professional at 2x ($2.45). There's no Amazon data, AI Search runs through Trakkr, a separate paid product, and the scheduler doesn't pick topics. See Koala AI vs Byword or our Byword alternatives.
Koala AI Alternatives for SEO Data and AI Visibility
These two Koala AI alternatives replace Koala's research side, not its bulk writer.
8. Semrush Content Toolkit: Semrush data behind every draft
Koala's SEO agent page sells its built-in data as a reason to skip other tools: "No Ahrefs or Semrush seat needed." If your team already works in Semrush, that logic runs the other way.
The Content Toolkit, formerly ContentShake AI, builds topic ideas and briefs from Semrush's keyword and competitor data. Its AI Search Optimizer suggests fixes "based on how Google and LLMs like ChatGPT surface content." Semrush became an Adobe subsidiary on 28 April 2026, and its customer FAQ promises "no immediate changes."
The one plan costs $60 a month, with no yearly discount shown. It includes 5 "SEO-boosted" articles with advanced SERP analysis, and Semrush's knowledge base lists standard articles as unlimited. Ten more boosted articles cost $30 a month, and the 7-day trial takes a card.
There's no bulk writing or autopilot. It writes in 7 languages to Koala's 100+, and AI citation tracking is a separate toolkit.
9. Scalenut: AI answer tracking with a writer attached
Koala's homepage now says "Rank on Google. Get cited by AI." Its documented citation checks cover Google AI Overviews, through its agent and MCP. If wider AI visibility tracking is why you're leaving, Scalenut is built around it. Its About page says it has "expanded into a full GEO platform." Every plan tracks prompts in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, and Professional adds Perplexity.
Plus, at $89 a month, includes 30 "GEO articles," 25 tracked prompts, a content audit, internal linking, WordPress and Shopify publishing, a Reddit tool, a backlinks marketplace and up to four team members. Starter is $59 for 5 articles and 10 prompts, and Professional $199 for 75. A yearly "60% OFF Limited Offer" shows Plus at $36 a month with doubled limits, but no yearly total. Each monthly plan starts with a 7-day free trial.
It's a tracker first, so article volume is modest, and tracking refreshes weekly unless you upgrade. Trustpilot showed 3.2 out of 5 from 159 reviews on 23 September 2026.
Amazon Roundups: Which Koala AI Alternatives Pull Product Data
Koala builds roundups and single-product reviews from live Amazon data, with prices, specs, ratings, review excerpts and affiliate links, from the $25 Starter plan. If that's most of your site, check this table before you move.
| Tool | Amazon product data | Affiliate formats | What one article uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Koala AI | Live Amazon data, from Starter | Roundups, single-product reviews | Words, times the model's multiplier |
| Autoblogging.ai | "Real Amazon product data," affiliate tags added | Amazon Reviews mode | 1 credit |
| SEOWriting.ai | Product lists from an Amazon URL or ASIN | 20+ affiliate models | 1 generation |
| ZimmWriter | Through ScrapeOwl, $5 a month | Roundups of up to 15 products | Your own AI bill |
| Machined | None listed | Roundup and review formats | 1 of your plan's articles |
| Byword | None | Spreadsheet templates | 1 credit |
| Rankbox | None | Researched, cited articles | 1 of your 30 |
The tool matters less than two Google rules. Its spam policies treat thin affiliation, meaning affiliate pages whose product descriptions and reviews are copied from the merchant with nothing original added, as spam. They also define scaled content abuse as "when many pages are generated for the primary purpose of manipulating search rankings and not helping users." Google's guidance on AI content says AI itself is fine: "Appropriate use of AI or automation is not against our guidelines."
Most Koala AI alternatives sell volume: 100 articles a batch, 500 from a CSV, 1,000 in one click. Spend it on roundups that carry your own verdicts and comparisons. Thirty of those do more for a site than three hundred rewrites of a merchant's page.
Thirty Articles a Month, Priced Several Ways
Word, credit and article plans make Koala AI alternatives hard to compare on list price. This table shows the plan covering about 30 articles and the cost per article at full use. Asterisks mark our arithmetic. Koala's rows assume 2,500-word English articles, and Rankbox's run about 2,750 words, so the comparison leans slightly toward Koala.
| Tool and plan | Billed monthly | Articles covered | Per article, full use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rankbox | $49.50 | 30 | $1.65 |
| Koala Professional, GPT-6 Luna | $49 | 40* | $1.23* |
| Koala Professional, Sonnet 5 or GPT-6 Sol | $49 | 20* | $2.45* |
| Koala Boost, Sonnet 5 or GPT-6 Sol | $99 | 50* | $1.98* |
| Koala Boost, Opus 5.5 | $99 | 33* | $3.00* |
| SEOWriting.ai Starter | $19 | Up to 50 | $0.38* |
| Machined Launch | $19 | 30 | $0.63 |
| Junia AI Scale Starter | $59 | 68 | $0.87 |
| Autoblogging.ai Regular, Godlike Mode | $49 | 60* | $0.82* |
| Byword Starter plus 5 extras | $116.50* | 30 | $3.88* |
| Scalenut Plus | $89 | 30 | $2.97 |
| ZimmWriter | $24.97 | No cap | Licence plus your AI bill |
Yearly billing lowers most of these: 20% off at Koala, $14 a month at SEOWriting.ai and Machined, and limited-time offers at Junia AI and Scalenut. Semrush's $60 mixes 5 boosted articles with standard drafts, so it gets no per-article figure.
Koala's bar is Boost, the plan that covers 30 articles on any model and includes autopilot.
Read the numbers two ways. For the lowest price per article, published in batches, SEOWriting.ai and Machined win at $19, and Koala on GPT-6 Luna beats Rankbox too. For 30 articles on a schedule without picking topics, it's $49.50 for Rankbox, $59 for Junia AI or $99 for Koala's Boost. A 100-article plan is only cheap if you publish 100, so pay monthly until a tool earns a yearly plan, as our cheap SEO guide advises.
Reasons to Keep Paying Koala
Not everyone should move to one of the Koala AI alternatives above. Stay if one of these describes you.
- You use the data. Its SEO agent plans from Search Console and Analytics, with keyword volumes, difficulty, SERPs, backlinks and competitor rankings in the plan. Rankbox estimates demand with AI instead.
- Amazon roundups pay your bills. Live product data comes with the $25 Starter plan.
- You write in many languages or for many brands. Koala covers 100+ languages with country targeting, and its plans run to 75 brands and 10 million words.
- You want to fix existing pages. KoalaLinks adds internal links, related posts and schema to pages on any CMS.
- You write on GPT-6 Luna and skip the calendar. Professional's $49 buys about 40 articles, less each than Rankbox, plus chat, images and lead magnets in what Koala calls "One subscription. Six products."
If two of those fit, Koala is money well spent. Our Koala AI comparison page shows the rest side by side.
Before You Cancel Koala
If you do move to one of these Koala AI alternatives, three Koala-specific checks save money.
- Refunds: Koala refunds within 15 days if you've used under 15,000 words and 100 credits. Machined and Byword don't offer routine refunds, and Rankbox subscriptions are non-refundable, so judge each tool inside its trial.
- Prepaid words: yearly plans deliver 12 months of words up front. Monthly credits lapse after a month.
- KoalaLinks: Koala says those links keep working after you cancel. Note which pages use them before a new tool adds its own internal links.
